(1) Nov. 1988 - Traded Russ Courtnall to Montreal for John Kordic and Montreal 6th round choice (Michael Doers) in 1989.

NOTE: Courtnall was voted Montreal's team MVP in 1991. He had 195 pts in 250 games as a Hab. Kordic was just a one dimensional enforcer who also went on to play with Washington and Quebec. Unfortunately, Kordic has since passed away. BTW: Michael who?

       (2) June 1978 - Traded Randy Carlyle and George Ferguson to Pittsburgh for Dave Burrows.

NOTE: Carlyle ended up winning the Norris Trophy in 1981 and played in four NHL All-Star Games. Burrows returned to the Penguins after two non-eventful seasons with the blue and white.

       (3) Oct. 1989 - Traded 1st round choice (Scott Niedermayer) in 1991 to New Jersey for Tom Kurvers.

NOTE: Niedermayer was seleted to the NHL All-Rookie Team in 1993 and was named to the Second All-Star Team in 1998. Kurvers only lasted a year and a half in Toronto.

       (4) June 1975 - Traded Doug Jarvis to Montreal for Greg Hubick.

NOTE: Jarvis was one of the more prominent defensive-forwards during his long career. This Included winning the Selke Trophy in 1984. Hubick lasted one season as a Leaf then ended up in the minors.

       (5) Sept. 1974 - Traded Rick Kehoe to Pittsburgh for Blaine Stoughton.

NOTE: Kehoe had five 30+ goal seasons with the Penguins and played in two NHL All-Star Games. Stoughton didn't make much of an impact in Toronto. He eventually jumped ship and signed with Cincinnati, of the now defunct WHA, back in 1976. Stoughton's best years in the NHL were with Hartford after the WHA merged with the NHL in 1979.

        (6) Mar. 1999 - Traded Jason Smith to Edmonton for Edmonton's 4th round choice (Jonathan Zion) in 1999 and 2nd round choice (Kris Vernarsky) in 2000.

NOTE: Smith has matured into one of the best defencemen on the Oilers. Zion and Vernarsky are no longer in Toronto's system.

        (7) Oct. 1999 - Traded 2nd round choice (Ivan Huml) in 2000 to Boston for Dmitri Khristich.

NOTE: Huml, at this point, is at least considered one of the better prospects on Boston's farm club. Khristich was nothing short of a flop in Toronto. Getting only 39 pts in 80 games. To make room for Khristich on the roster. The Leafs had to place Steve Sullivan on waivers. Sullivan was picked up by Chicago and led them in scoring in 2001 with 75 pts.

         (8) Oct. 1999 - Traded Fredrik Modin to Tampa Bay for Cory Cross and Tampa Bay's 7th round choice (Ivan Kolozvary) in 2001.

NOTE: Modin scored a total 54 goals during his first two years in Tampa. Cross has generally been a defensive liability for the Leafs who rarely used his size. Cross has since been traded away. Kolozvary has yet to come to the NHL.

          (9) Sept. 1987 - Traded Rick Vaive, Steve Thomas and Bob McGill to Chicago for Ed Olczyk and Al Secord.

NOTE: Vaive and Thomas were both successful during their tenure in the "Windy City." While Olczyk had some productive years in Toronto. Secord couldn't say the same. He struggled badly after having some big years as a Black Hawk.

         (10) Mar. 1997 - Traded Larry Murphy to Detroit for future considerations.

NOTE: Murphy had the last laugh after constantly being  booed at MLG. As a defenceman, he accumulated 104 pts during his first two seasons in the "Motor City." Murphy averaged 30 pts per season during his last two years. More importantly, he was part of two Stanley Cup championship teams in Detroit. Nobody did find out what ever became of the future considerations Toronto "received".

          (11) Jan. 1982 - Traded Darryl Sittler to Philadelphia for Rich Costello, Hartford's 2nd round choice - previously acquired by Philadelphia - (Peter Ihnacak) in 1982 and Ken Strong.

NOTE: Sittler popped in 43 goals in his first full season wearing the orange and black. He would only play one more year in Philadelphia (27 goals) after leaving for Detroit. Ihnacak had a good rookie year with the Leafs. After that, his production suffered badly because of injuries. Costello and Strong were totally irrelevant.
