The Battle Of Chase Court
Well this week's article pretty much writes itself. This time around, I will give you the summary of a good night and leave you with that, instead of particular foible that upsets me. It was just such a great night I want to share it with everyone.
Let me set the scene: Acadia University, Wolfville, Nova Scotia, Chase Court, Main Lounge. Now the thing that you have to understand about Nova Scotia is it's as much laff's country as the ugly metropolis of Toronto. The ugly leaf is all they know out here thanks to the waste of money known as the CBC. Also, there is an abundance of students here who happen to be from Toronto. I had the pleasure of watching the Ottawa Senators and Toronto maple laffs game on Thursday.
Now there was a big deal about this game. Uncharacteristically, Ottawa had lost to the ugly leaf earlier in the year. It was a hard fought game, with an unfortunate 2-1 score. I took my fair share of razzing. The laffs fans felt pretty secure and superior. The major culprits where I live are Gaylen Renolds, and Meghan Forbes. Gaylen actually knows a bit about hockey. He provides a little challenge when we clash, but because of Ottawa's previous loss, he had the upper hand. Meghan? Well, she's nice and all - but hockey connoisseur she's not.
There were various other fans in the main lounge watching the game as well. However, the majority of conflict was between Gaylen, and me. Adam Zaret is another Sens fan who was there. Adam is great because he can be an annoying prick when he wants to, and he always seems able to get under Meghan's skin. There was a lot of talk leading up to this game. Both sides had their valid points but Gaylen simply kept insisting that Toronto would win. Gaylen's heart was about to be crushed like the hopes of any leaf fan in April.
Each side had their respective jerseys and accessories - flags, inflatable Stanley Cup, etc. When the game began, everyone had confidence. For all the talking that Gaylen did, he didn't watch for very long. It took about 6 minutes before he left in disgrace. Gaylen was jeered when he left and the taunting has yet to cease. Meghan, being punctual as she is, came in just in time to see Toronto's only goal. Seeing this gave her hope, that is, until Ottawa scored two more to make the final score 7-1. As soon as she walked in Adam went to work. It was not pretty. Funny, but not pretty.
Oh how the 'Battle of Ontario' was won. Ottawa pummeled Toronto and no one will soon forget it. Basically, it shut up the self-righteous Toronto fans I know. Because of his shameful exit, Gaylen missed Daniel Alfredsson's hilarious mock stick throwing gesture. He saw it on TSN the next day and just about exploded. It was adding insult to injury for him, and seeing him blow his stack was pretty funny.
Needless to say, this week's article is just the icing on the cake after the win. Take that Gaylen.
