Where Were You In ’62?
Big, big celebration in Laffland this weekend. Mats Sundin is playing in his 721st game as a leaf. That puts him in 10th place amongst all-time leaf goofs.
Big deal, eh? Desperate leafers always look for any little thing to celebrate. I can’t believe the big Sardine has stomached Laffland for 10 straight years. Even Wendel Clark couldn’t and didn’t go that many leaf years in a row. Must be the money they give Mats. And the chance they give him to captain Team Sweden as soon as the leaf playoffs are over EARLY every year.
George Armstrong lasted the longest as a leaf. 21 straight seasons, 1,187 games. God bless his soul - not that he’s dead yet or anything. I just can’t imagine any player being a stupid leaf for that long. Poor guy.
Did you know that the “Chief”, Armstrong captained the last leaf team to finish first overall in the NHL? Yuppers, big leaferoo – way back in ’62. Well, 1962-63 actually. 41 years ago. My father’s older cousin in Ontario was watching it unfold on his new Admiral portable black and white TV.
Here comes the startling and once again sad story. In its entire 86 year history, the leaf has only finished first overall during the regular season 5 times: once in the 20’s, twice in the 30’s, once in the 40’s, and for the last time, in 1962-63. How bad is that? Well, it’s never fair to compare the leaf to the Montreal Canadiens but this time I must because the Habs are the only other NHL team to have been around since NHL Day 1 in 1917. Our Habs have finished in 1st place 23 times. WOW 23-5 for Montreal! Think the leaf will ever catch up? Not in YOUR life time, buddy.
What happened? Too many stupid leaf fans, I think. Foster Hewitt had something to do with it. Were you listening to H.N.I.C. on your Admiral solid state transistor radio in ‘62?
Dumb sheep leafers “goleafsgo” no matter what. It makes me ill to be associated with them. Good hockey fans? Not really. Good Canadian hockey fans would not have let this pathetic leaf get away with it. The better ones moved on to cheer for the Canucks, Oilers, Flames, Senators or Canadiens. Or even a respectable U.S. based team with lots of good Canadian boys – like the Red Wings. (I love Stevie Y, don’t you?) Or maybe the Avalanche with Canadian Gold hero, Joe Sakic.
What about some of the other teams that have been around awhile, how have they done when it comes to finishing in 1st place?
Here you go: Detroit has finished in first place 15 times, including 7 times in a row between 1949 and 1955. The Bruins – 12 times. Just makes the stupid leaf look that much worse doesn’t it? That’s what I do, reveal the truth.
Suck it up leaf fan because I really hate the long term mediocrity the leaf represents.
So where were you in ’62 as the leaf was finishing first for the last time? Girl watching?
"Yeah Baby!"
Maybe you or your forefathers were religious and taking note, with reverence, of what the pope was wearing in those days.
Are you proud, leafer? Idiot! Get a hockey history education and stop being just another dumb sheep.
In 2004, the leaf was in 1st place overall on January 1st. Then the rest of the NHL players who absolutely hate the leaf and its goons said, "Enough is enough!" And now the leaf is no longer in first. ONE DAY ONLY!
Happy New Year you one-day, one dimensional, all-time leafer loser.
I hate the leaf
